Report by OD bureau, Bhubaneswar: State Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Reduction will be observed on 29th October 2012 at Jaydev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. It was decided in a high level meeting held in the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner Sri R.N. Senapati,. ‘Building Safe Shelters for Disaster Risk Reduction’ will be the theme of this year’s State Disaster Preparedness Day.
To mark this occasion an exhibition of Search & Rescue Equipments by Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, Fire Services, NDRF, improvised Search and Rescue Equipment by Red Cross Assistive devices for persons with disabilities by Handicapped International will be organised on this day at Jaydev Bhawan. It was also decided to award & best 2 ODRAF Units, best 3 ODRAF Rescuers, best NDRF team, best 3 Fire Service Units, best 3 well managed multipurpose cyclone shelters constructed by Red Cross, best 3 well managed multipurpose cyclone shelters constructed by OSDMA, best 3 Search & Rescue Team, best 3 First Aid Team, best search & rescue trained volunteer and best First Aid Trained volunteers. Head Master/Head Mistress of Ananta Uchha Vidyalaya, Kendrapara and Town High School, Angul will be felicitated for National Level Award winner on School Safety norms. Annual News letter of OSDMA ‘The Response’ will be inaugurated by Chief Minister on the Disaster Preparedness Day.
In the district, block and G.P level drawing/Art competition among school students and Essay/Debate/Elocution competition among school /College students and Mass Awareness Rally, Street play, meetings and discussions on Disaster management issues will be held. Among others Chief Managing Director OSDMA Sri B.N. Das, Director Information & Public Relations Sri D.P. Das, G.M OSDMA Sri R. Patnaik, representatives of UN and other senior officers attend the meeting.
