Jajpur: A group of armed dacoits looted gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 1 from Krishna Alankar owned by Ajay Kumar Boitai at the State Bank Square at Jajpur Road on Thursday evening.
Eye-witnesses said the dacoits came walking in a group and after reaching the jewellery shop started bombing, scaring the people on the road away.
They walked into the shop and just snatched away the packets containing the jewellery from the hands of Boitai before he came to realise as to what had happened.
Boitai at that time was going to store the jewellery in the iron chest in order to leave for home to prepare for his daughter’s birthday celebration.
The dacoits had not to labour much or spend time in gathering the jewellery from the showcases.
According to the witnesses, the dacoits, after their easy operation, came out and again bombed their way through the main thoroughfare on foot and nobody knew where they vanished.
While a woman who came for shopping nearby sustained minor injury from a splinter, three vehicles parked near the shop were partially damaged.
The dacoits exploded about 25 to 30 bombs, the witnesses said.
Police is investigating the matter.
