Odisha: Odia Film makers now come with crispy taglines for their film name
Thursday, October 25, 2012
Report by Ashok Palit, Bhubaneswar: Ever wondered what a tagline for a film is all about? If you jog your memory a bit, you'll recall that most of the odia films that were churned post 2011 and 2012, came with their very own taglines. It's like a package deal. Have title, will have tagline. And no matter, if it makes absolutely no sense.

A tagline is a must is a must is a must. Now if we have a look at these sayings, they range from somewhat sensible to barely relevant to the utterly mindless! Not to mention the sleazy slimeballish ones! Now who is to hammer some sense into most of these film makers? Rarely is any movie's title registered today without a tagline to follow. It may or may not really have a relevance to the movie's theme or may not even be remotely connected to the original title Take for example Vidisha crafts Matric Fail, which was releasing this year, the tagline reads M.A in Lovology, It’s more about the tagline now. At least that’s the case with a bevy of upcoming odia films aiming to draw eyeballs with their quirky taglines

Take for example Idiot- the taglines was I do Ishq only Tumse, while another movie Luchakali Goes beyond the one liner trick and reads: ‘Catch me if you can; director Susant Mani interprets as: ‘I’m as manipulative as you are’. On how important a role does a tagline play, Ashok Pati says, “Taglines clear the approach towards the film and tell the jist of the story.” Actor Mihir Das agrees and adds, “Taglines involve a lot of inquisitiveness to explore the film further. For   example in the name of film Katak the tag line  was  the silver city justify for which Cuttack is famous .While the tagline of Papu pom pom’s Rangila toka   reads ‘Rangila toka   -be positive, Mihir Das, Aparajita and Arindam starrer Daddy shouts out ‘Daddy-the living God on its poster., which is in pipe line for release.

Others are taking the contemporary route. The film Thukool has chosen everything freeze in love, its tagline, Sambit starrer Prabhu is trying to bank on the recent fight for injustice with a tagline ‘Prabhu-power of injustice. Other upcoming movies with enticing taglines are: Mu-the devil inside us, Gadabada—the confusion continues, Bad Girl- Gote Badnam Jhiara Kahani,Lafanga-the chokha toka, Aditya-an encounter specialist, Vinashak-the destroyer, Film-the hope of ray and Omm-I am not God
