Report by Rashmi r Parida; New Delhi: Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik won two gold medals at Spain in Solo International Sand art contest 2012 which was held at Marbella city in Southern Spain from 9th July to 17th July. Where Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik only represented India at this contest.
Pattnaik created a 3.5 meter sand sculpture of Lord Ganesh sitting on a boat and spread message about 'Save our Sea Life - Save our Earth from Global Warming'. The theme of the competition is "Secrets of the Sea". Pattnaik won two gold medals in the category "people's choice" and "Best positive" sculpture. Pattnaik used 1000 tones of sand in this sculpture.
I was very happy when they announce that India got two prizes. I always try to give some social message through my art and for that I got this prize for my country said Sudarsan.
Ten sculptors around the World will represented their country in this competition like Spain, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Poland and Holland. There are five different categories like Realistic, Creative, Fantastic, positive and people choice prize for winners. Spain won the creative and Italy won the Fantastic sculpture prize.
Pattnaik has participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships across the globe and has won many prizes for our country. Recently he has won first prize at Copenhagen sand sculpture championship at Denmark.
