Mumbai: Maharashtra Government promoted Odia IPS officer Arup Patnaik promoted as Director General and posted as Managing Director of Maharashtra State Security RPT Security (MSSC).

It should be noted that Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik got strident demands from the opposition and sections within the government for his ouster over his  handling of the violence at Azad Maidan on August 11. The transfer came two days after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, during a massive rally in Mumbai, had demanded immediate ouster of Patnaik over the violence at Azad Maidan, for allegedly failing to control the situation during a demonstration to protest alleged persecution of Muslims in Assam and Myanmar.
