Bhubaneswar: About 150 differently able children from across the state will participate in the two-day state-level selection competition for the International Abylimpics starting from Saturday.
According to Ms Asha Hans, executive vice-president of Shanta Memorial Rehabilitation Centre, there are a total of 24 events. The Centre, in collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped is conducting the competition. The International Abylimpics for the special children is held every fourth year. It had kicked of in Japan in 1981, and the next one will be held at Seoul in South Korea in 2011. In the sixth International Abylimpics in Indian in 2003, as many as 23 differently able children from the state had participated and six of them were awarded gold and bronze medals.
