Bhubaneswar: In the final clash, Udipan Mukherjee’s 91 runs gone to vain while West Bengal lost to defending champion Odisha by two wickets and the host emerged champion in the East Zone Accounts General (AG) Cricket Tournament, which concluded at Railway Stadium here Friday. Being invited to bat first, West Bengal scored 186 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the 40 overs. Apart from Udipan, Jorge Pal scored 24 runs. Basant Mohanty, Bibhudutta Panda, Piusha Ranjan Sinha of Odisha bagged two wickets each. In reply, Bibhudutta Panda smashed 55 runs and well supported by Govind Poddar, who scored 30 runs and the team reached the winning target in 39 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Earlier in the semifinal on Wednesday, Odisha beat Bihar by 46 runs and last year runners-up West Bengal defeated Assam by seven wickets. AG Civil Audit Amar Patnaik distributed the trophies as chief guest of the closing ceremony. Among others, president East Coast Sports Organisation Dillp Samantary, Accountant General Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Amar Patnaik, Senior Deputy AG Keshab Chandra Behera, Deputy AG Asis Kumar Bid, SB Patil, Director Audit East Coast Railway PK Das and Satya Narayan Nanda were present.
