Bhubaneswar: Raghubir Choudhary would start as firm favourite in the top category (A&B) of the Tata Steel-IGU East Zone Junior Tour, which resumes after a three-week break here at Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) on Wednesday. The Bhubaneswar Junior/Sub-junior tournament forms the fifth leg of the nine-leg East Zone Junior Tour.
The 36-hole event will see players fighting for honours in four categories. However, it would not be a cake-walk for Raghubir, who annexed the RCGC Junior/Sub-Junior title at his home club in Kolkata. He is expected to face stiff competition from the likes of Abhisek Abhijeet, Udayjit Bhalotia and Yashvardhan Sarda.
The East Zone Junior Tour is an initiative from the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and has found the support of Tata Steel, who have adopted golf in a big way and aim to promote the sport at the grassroots level.
Apart from giving the young players a chance to showcase their talent, the Tour aims at providing competitive environment which in turn would help them to climb the ladder for a successful golfing career.
The challenging lay-out of the BGC course is sure to test the mettle of these youngsters. The strategically located bunkers and the other obstacles demand accuracy. An exciting finish would be an icing on the cake.
