Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s third Gold medal has come through Asman Sahu, a student of Vikash Junior College of Bargard in Triple Jump event on the closing day of the 9th National Youth (Under-18) Athletic Championship-2012 at Bangalore on Sunday.
He has jumped 15 metres in his second attempted and it was sufficient to keep moral down of his rival Ajit MA of Kerala who has satisfied with silver medal with jump of 14.40 metre. The bronze medal has gone to Akhil Biju also from Kerala with jump of 14.11 metres.
Another athlete of the State Rajeswari Bhoi of Sundargarh (SAI sports Hostel) secured bronze medal in Heptathlon event with 3614 points. In this event Sowmiya M of Tamil Nadu and Amrutha M of Kerala finishes first and second with 4018 points and 3642 points respectively.
In the inaugural day promising sprinter Dutee Chanda bagged the gold medal in the 100 metre sprint by clocking 11.85 second and created a new national meet record. She also secured another gold medal in 200 metre race with equalise the national and meet record by clocking 24.49 seconds, for her dynamic effort she received the best woman athlete of the meet in the concluding day.
