Bhubaneswar: Odisha started their campaign on a modest note, compiling a competitive total of 233 in 85 overs against Hyderabad on the opening day of their two-day league match of the All India Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament at Murugappa Stadium in Chennai today.
Electing to bat, Odisha lost three of their top order batsmen cheaply before being rescued by the middle order. Abilash Mallick top scored with 44, while skipper Biplab Samantaray and Govind Poddar hit 43 and 35 respectively. Among others, tail-ender Alok Mangaraj scored a breezy 24, while all-rounder Rakesh Mohanty remained unbeaten on 20.
Lalit Mohan was the most successful bowler for Hyderabad, bagging four wickets for 69 runs. Paravir Singh also performed well, scalping three wickets for 58. Chasing 234 for victory, Hyderabad were 14 for no loss when stumps were drawn for the day.
