SR Chess centre felicitates Debasis

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s leading chess training centre SR Chess Center felicitated Debasis Das at Cuttack on Tuesday.
Odisha’s International Master (IM) Debasis bagged his maiden GM Norm at the World Junior Chess Championships at Greece on August 11.
Mohanty suffered a defeat from Armenian GM Ter Sahakyan Samvel in the final round.
He upset the Germany Grand Master (GM) Husdhenbeth Niclas and forced the GM to share the points in the ninth round and scored 6.5 points and obtains his GM norms.
In the sixth round Mohanty caused the meager upset by defeating Nederland GM Van Kampen and created a chance to get the norms.
Mohanty also forced the GM’s of China Yu Yangyi and Russian Shimanov Aleksandr in the seventh and eighth rounds respectively to share the points.
Debasis is the second person of the state, who achieved first GM norms.
Satya Ranjan Patnaik, Asit Mukharjee and many young chess star of the state were present in the function.
