Bhubaneswar: Ansuman Samal of Cuttack and Sweta Senapati of Angul emerged champion in the open and girls categories respectively in the three-day long Odisha State U-13 Open and Girls Championship, which concluded at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Monday, being organised by Cuttack District Chess Association under the aegis of All Odisha State Chess Association. Ansuman Samal mainted his overnight lead and scored six points by the end of seventh and final round, emerged champion. Similarly, Nishit Mohanty of Cuttack scored six points bagged the runners-up trophy, with 5.5 points Sankalp Baliarsingh finished third. The champion received the cash prize of `1,500 and the runners-up richer by `1,200. Similarly in the girls event, Sweta and Tutumbara Bidhar of Khurdha scored 5.5 and five points respectively and emerged champion and runners-up respectively. While, Nabanita Pattnaik scored 4.5 points and finished third. The top two players of open and girls will represent the State in the forthcoming National Under-13 Open Championship to be held at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Periamet, Chennai from October 12 to 21.
