Bhubanswar: A five-day KIIT AITA 50k Men’s Ranking Tennis Tournament cleared by the Odisha Tennis Association (OTA), would begin from October 1 at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) premises here. The qualifying matches of the tournament were held on September 29 and 30 to select players from 48 participants for the main draw of 32. The main draw matches will begin from October 1. The participants for the qualifying draw were from 13 states including Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradhesh and Odisha. Seven players from Odisha are in the main draw. They are Chinmay Pradhan, Santosh Mallik and Adwithiya Patnaik through direct entry in the top 20 while Satirtha Patnaik, Ajay Nishank, Manoj Kumar Nayak and Sreeiit Abhishek through wild card entries. Top seed of the tournament is Vinod Sridhar from Tamil Nadu with an all India rank of 31 and 2nd seed as Rithvik Anand (TN) with an all India rank of 60 as per the acceptance list. The tournament will witness high quality matches as 12 players from top 100 of India are participating in it. The total prize money for the tournament is Rs 50,000. While Singles winner will get Rs 6,500 with 20 points, runners will receive Rs 4,500 with 15 points in AITA Mens Singles ranking respectively. Madhusudan Padhi, IAS, Secretary of OTA, is the Tournament Director while Prabin Kumar Nayak is the Tournament Supervisor to be assisted by other AITA officials.
