Cuttack: While the alleged involvement of umpires in match-fixing created uproar in the world of cricket, Odisha Cricket Association took a positive step by encouraging people to take to umpiring and helping umpires improve their efficiency and expertise.
The commencement of OCA Panel Umpiring Examination at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Friday was the OCA effort, which generated good response as 61 candidates from across the state joined the three-day programme.
Host Odisha Cricket Association treasurer and BCCI Umpire Sub-Committee member Satya Mohanty inaugurated the three-day programme in the presence of OCA joint-secretary Sanjib Kumar Dutta and Chief Executive Officer Bidyut Kumar Nayak.
The opening day schedule featured elaborate discussion on laws of cricket. The programme, which is being conducted by BCCI Panel umpires Subrat Das, Arun Kumar Basa and Bibhuti Bhushan Satpathy, will concluded with written and practical examination on October 14.
