Bhubaneswar: Khordha emerged as overall champions in the Odisha State Women’s Sports Meet, which concluded at Kalinga Stadium here today.
Khordha asserted supremacy in badminton, basketball, swimming, table tennis and tennis, while Sundargarh and Jagatsinghpur won the top honours in athletics and handball respectively. In the basketball final, Khordha defeated Cuttack 60-49.
Bhadrak and Ganjam finished third and fourth respectively. Jagatsinghpur beat Keonjhar in the final to take the title in handball, while the third place in the discipline was occupied by Cuttack.
Gitanjali Jena claimed the badminton title, getting the better of her Khordha districtmate Itishree Behera in the summit clash. Lipi Khillo of Koraput finished third. Director, Sports and Youth Services DV Swamy and international woman powerlifter Ranu Mohanty gave away the trophies at the closing ceremony.
