Bhubaneswar: Damayanti Murmu won the first medal for Odisha in the 28th National Junior Athletics Championship, which commenced at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh today.
A trainee of Bhubaneswar-based Government Sports Hostel, Mumru secured a bronze girls-18 javelin throw with an effort of 39.46 metres.
The gold and silver in the event went to Haryana's Sharmila Kumari (47.31m) and West Bengal's Abha Khatua (42.12m) respectively.
Among other Odisha athletes, Sekunta Kullu finished fourth in girls-16 100m sprint with a timing of 12.94 seconds, Madhuchhanda Mishra fifth in girls-14100m sprint, Bonita Lakra seventh in girls-20 100m sprint and Chinmaya Jena fifth in boys-18 javelin throw.
