Report by OD bureau, Bhubaneswar: Noted Sports journalist and the Sports Editor of The New Indian Express (TNIE) group, Siddartha Mishra passed away at about 9 am on October 30, 2012 Passed away at his Kilpauk residence in Chennai at around 9 am on Oct 30, 2012. He was 40. He was ailing for some time.
He is survived by his wife Prachitara, daughter Mamali and son Sumeet. He was the second son of noted litteratuer, retired Professor of English, Utkal University, and editor of Prameya (Odia daily) Ganeswar Mishra and retired reader in Economics, BJB College (Odisha Education Service, Surangini Mishra. His brothers are Subrat, Sunand and Sandeep (Sandeep Mishra is working as assistant editor with the Times of India, Bhubaneswar).
Siddhartha completed his matriculation from Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, his Plus II science from BJB College, Bhubaneswar, Plus three (geology honours) from D D College, Keonjhar and MSc from University of Delhi. He was did a PG diploma in journalism from Times School of Journalism, New Delhi.
April 2008-present: sports editor, The New Indian Express (TNIE) Group based at Chennai; launched eight-page, all-sport weekly supplement Maxsport for the publication.
Siddhartha worked as Senior Assistant Editor in the Sports bureau of English language News Channel NewX from January to March 2007 and worked with the Times of India from 1996 to 2007 before he switched to TNIE.
Major assignments
For TOI, reported from South Africa during the 2003 cricket World Cup and in the build-up to the 2007 World T20; covered international cricket matches, including 2006 ICC Champions Trophy games, in various parts of the country. For TNIE, filed copies from Delhi during the 2010 hockey World Cup and Commonwealth Games.
