Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Cuttack: A former Orissa legislator and CPI(M) leader Laxaman Munda Wednesday filed a petition in the Orissa High Court for contempt proceedings against several officials for allegedly pushing a mega irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh in violation of the orders of the Court.
According to sources, CPI(M) leader and former legislature Laxaman Munda has sought contempt proceedings against the secretary of the environment and forests Ministry, the Central Water Commission Chairman, and the Principal Secretary, the Chief Secretary and four other officials of Andhra Pradesh. The state government has already written letters to the Central Water Commission (CWC), Department of water resources, Government of India (GoI) urging them not to allow Andhra Pradesh government to go ahead with the project.
Earlier on March 22, 2006, the High Court had directed authorities to proceed with the construction of the Indira Sagar Polavaram multipurpose irrigation project after complying with all requirements.
