Bhubaneswar: Samajwadi Party Odisha unit has demanded implementation of 27 per cent reservation for students of Other Backward Classes (OBC) in colleges and universities including Medical and Engineering in the state.
Party president Rabi Behera, in a letter to the chief minister, has said while the Centre has already implemented this reservation policy in IITs and IIMS, the state government has not taken any step in this regard so far.
The students of the Backward Class communities of the state are the worst sufferers and they are deprived of their legitimate constitutional rights; he said and urged the state government to implement the policy from the Academic Session 2012-13 commencing from April 1.
Behera said in Delhi, the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government has taken a step in implementing 27 per cent reservation for students of OBC in all colleges and universities on February 27.
Similarly, Behera requested the chief minister to take steps for inclusion of the Odisha Reservation of Posts and Vacancies Resolution for Other Backward Classes in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution to enable the Backward Class youths of the state to avail 27 percent reservation, which is lying with the home ministry for the last four years.
