Report by OD bureau; Hyderabad: The State Government has decided to boost production of renewable energy from wind, solar, small hydro and municipal wastes.
To achieve the twin objectives overcoming the present power shortage and to encourage environment-friendly sources of power, the government will shortly announce an investor-friendly policy for investors who come forward to invest in wind, solar, municipal wastes and small hydro power projects. It is expected that several thousands of MWs of renewable power will be connected to the grid in 2013.
The Chief Minister today reviewed the generation from renewable energy sector with Ministers and officials today. Ministers Sri A.Ramanarayana Reddy, Dr.J.Geetha Reddy, Sri N.Raghuveera Reddy, Sri Uttam Kumar Reddy and Sri Sudarshan Reddy, Prl.Secretary Energy, Sri M.Sahoo, Prl.Secretary Finance, Smt.Vasudha Mishra, CMD APTRANSCO Sri H.Samariya, MD, APGENCO Sri Vijayanand, MD, NERDCAP Sri Kamalakar Babu, Secretary to CM Sri KS Jawahar Reddy and other officials attended the meeting. The Chief Minister said that the State government wanted to encourage the renewable energy sector in a big way.
He said mini hydro generation, power from municipal wastes will also be encouraged. The Chief Minister also reviewed the power situation and asked the energy officials to see that the situation is improved at the earliest. Energy officials assured the Chief Minister that they will come out with a comprehensive policy on renewable energy in 2 or 3 days. The group of Ministers will examine and submit to the Chief Minister.
