Aamir Khan plays a police officer in his first commercial release after 3 Idiots. Shot in Mumbai, Pondicherry and London, the storyline of the film has been kept closely guarded from beginning. As per trailers and trade talk, Rani plays his wife and Kareena plays a prostitute, Rosy.

Originally scheduled to release in December 2011, the film was postponed to its tentative release date of June 1, 2012.  Now Talaash is scheduled to release on November 30, 2012.

In February 2012, Reliance Entertainment acquired the distribution rights of the film for 90 crore whilst its satellite rights were sold for 40 crore.
