Bhubaneswar: Adding yet another chapter to the 19-month-old saga involving top cop B B Mohanty and his rape-convict son Bitihotra, the Orissa government has decided to issue ads in newspapers asking the suspended IPS officer to come out of his hideout and respond to charges framed against him.
This would be the first time when such action is initiated against a DGP-rank officer, official sources said. The decision was taken to dig out Mohanty senior, absconding since August, after the state government filed an affidavit before SC detailing action it has taken to arrest Mohanty and his son who jumped parole and went underground in December, 2006.
The government has made up its mind to issue ads asking Mohanty senior to show up because the latter is yet to receive his suspension order served in August and also the disciplinary proceeding charges served subsequently.
The decision has been taken after taking the views of the law and general administration departments, a senior officer said.
