Like his people the Lord is denied entry into the temple when he comes back from his journey as he forgets to take his wife Goddess Laxmi. Ultimately he is allowed to regain his lost position only through a festival. Being observed on 7th July this year Hera Panchami equates the stature of God and his consort to almost the human level.

Legend goes that Laxmi sets out in night and visits the Gundicha Temple through Badadanda and returns secretly through the Heragohiri Sahi or street after breaking a piece of wood of Nandigosha Ratha to teach Him a lesson. On his return to His sanctum Jagannath is obstructed at the Kalahata Dwara and a verbal duel full of innuendos is exchanged till the Lord succeeds in convincing his dearest. As a mark of there union, Rasagollas are offered as Prasada once in a year.
