Puri: Puri Servitors called off dharna after a meeting with by State Law Secretary Debabrata Das. The meeting was held here on Saturday to solve the ongoing police-servitor row following the servitors' threat to resort to agitation.
Sources said it was unanimously resolved to conduct an administrative inquiry into the incident of the police assault on the Sevayats by the Additional District Magistrate and the report would be submitted by the end of August. Earlier, the Jagannath Mandir Chhatisha Nijog Mahasammellan, a new outfit of the servitors, had alleged police excesses on the servitors and approached the Chief Minister demanding action against the policemen and served an ultimatum to go on agitation if the demand was not met.
The officials who were present in the meeting were Revenue Divisional Commissioner and Temple Chief Administrator PK Mohapatra, District Magistrate Fakir Charan Satpathy, DIG of Police DS Kutte and district SP Amitendranath Sinha. Among the servitors, Ramchandra Dasmahapatra, Ramchandra Simhari, Rabi Das, Kasinath Khuntia and Damodar Mahasuar participated in the meeting.
